Although Tom was born and raised in Buffalo, New York, he’s truly a Texan at heart. He moved to Texas in the late seventies, met his wife Jill in Houston, and the two married in 1979. They settled in Austin in 1981, where Tom completed his degree at The University of Texas at Austin. In 1985, they welcomed their first son, Will, followed by their second son, Sam, two years later. Tom and Jill raised their boys on the north shore of Lake Travis in Point Venture, spending countless hours together on the water skiing, kneeboarding, and wakeboarding. Tom began his insurance career in 1989 when he opened his own Farmers agency. After selling that business in 2005, he founded Dowd Insurance as an independent agency. When he’s not leading the agency, Tom enjoys listening to a wide range of music, tending to his indoor plants, and diving into a good book—especially anything related to theology. He is also deeply committed to serving the community through various ministries.
